The service came free when we joined a new gym in town, in conjunction with weekly personal trainer sessions. The trainer was great; the nutrition consultant was clueless.

At one point, I had a revelation that seems obvious now. I told her about it: "I just realized that a tablespoon of olive oil doesn't *have" 14 grams of fat. A tablespoon of olive oil *is* 14 grams of fat. I mean, it doesn't have fat in it. It is fat. That's just what it is."

She stared at me blankly through this. "A tablespoon of olive oil has 14 grams of fat," she said, finally, shaking her head slightly.

"No, I mean, 27 grams is metric for an ounce. Two tablespoons of oil weighs an ounce. So half that, that's 14 grams. They just rounded it."

More blank stare. She had no idea what I was talking about.Vesna VKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13064900795747489085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-330556976891434773.post-29194296593104893572008-03-06T10:35:00.000-06:002008-03-06T10:35:00.000-06:00I love it!Even though I spend inordinate amounts o...I love it!

Even though I spend inordinate amounts of time blogging about eating real, whole foods (mostly those low in carbohydrates), I don't preach to people outside the blogosphere.

Except ... I cannot resist occasionally sparring with someone who brings it up first - like the coworker who felt some need to tell me that olive oil has 120 calories per tablespoon. "Calories are overrated," I said. "I've been losing weight on 2,400 calories a day."

And ... I tell everyone who will listen that butterfat is the perfect food. I like your way of phrasing it even better, though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
